Happy Halloween.......

1992 Bram Stoker's "dracula" is one of my favorites. Alot of big cast names and I think one of the scariest versions of Count Dracula himself played by Gary Oldman but you can decide. There are alot of scary movies I like, Saw series, Hostel, Silence of the lambs, the ring and all Stephen King movies............"IT" I think that's why I hate clowns.......

self tuaght spinner......

Not everyone has a knack for spinning deer hair. Some hate it, some don't want to or some just don't know how. Now I have been friends with Dave Lindsay a.k.a "McFluffchucker" for a while and he is a a top notch bro! As well as being a funny ass Scottish guy top notch joke teller and a quite awesome heavy metal background he is a hell of a pike tier and angler. Baitfish, deerhair patterns, foam, big hooks he is all familiar with. And ideas, well lets just say his brain is always on o.t with new ideas. One thing I have learned from Dave...if he likes a pattern he will tie give you credit when he does it and will put a bit of his twist to it...case in point frog legs! I am not sucking up as everyone might think but lets say give credit to a good friend. Here are some of McFluff's work.......

Now Dave is a self taught deer hair spinner, really good too. Can blend colors and trim to the neatest speck! I think Dave Whitlock or Chris Helm would be very impressed......Sub Bug to the neatest one of my favs!

So to Dave..thanks bro....and the many laughs, ideas ans constant picking, keep it up and I will keep telling my lame ass jokes....HA

"SUB BUGGUS MAXIMUS"

Sub buggin and tying the big ones are fun. Still playin around with the synthetic santa material. This is a 8inch long sub snack on a 6/0 Gamugatsu. Friday is supposed to be in the 60's so will be out tossin lookin forward to that. Will add this pattern over to the sub bug site and be on the look out for some new video footage of some sub buggin and hopefully some pike1 Tight lines Chuckers!

Simple.......

Here are some pike patterns i have been working on and a real snap to tie! All synthetic materials so will shed water fast on your back cast. This is kinda similar to one of the 1st pike patterns I ever tied. These take markers very well and can be tied in various lengths. The tail is Santa material that I picked up from the craft store and i am really liking the the stuff! Hook is a 6/0 gamugatsu saltwater. I need to get some footage and some pike fishing in before there is 2ft of snow on the ground....tight lines!

Froggin.....

I have had this idea in my head for a few weeks now and finally got all the kinks out. I think this will be a good late summer pattern. I used wire chenille so I can bend the legs and arms to shape as I need or as a fish crushes it. Frogs are a good diet for bass, pike, pickerel and bowfin. I am no bug expert just like making these and is a change of pace for the moment from baitfish and bunnybugs and such. That reminds me I have a idea for a pike fly...............................

Frogger with a lily pad.........

Cork bugs.......

Muckin around with the dremel tool and crafting up some bass bugs on 2/0 mustad bass bug hooks. The polishing part of the tool really smooths out the cork surface making the coloring process a snap! Here is a couple of pics ......box of these guys and some lily pads and hang on!!!!

Santa's little helper.......

3.99$ for a block of this santa stuff...ho ho ho!

At the craft store I found this synthetic material craft fur. I know you get the craft fur at the tying shop...but this has some backing to it that does not allow you to be able to stretch the stuff to shit. I did a couple of prototypes in the bunny bug style but they are not bunny bugs right. So i call them Santa's little helper due to the fact that I got this stuff in the christmas isle for 3.99$. I plan to pike fish tom evening after work and put this stuff to the test and see what it has got or if it a flop. Here are the photo's of what I will be tossin....enjoy no guarantees...........

Saturday Fluffin..........

Had a enjoyable day on the lake today with my fiance. She came with me as the photographer which was real nice for a change. Did manage to hook one pike but lost it shortly after. Water temps were in the high 50's and little to no wind and plenty of sun. Got to try out a few new patterns and have to say I really like the E.P streamer brush material. Hit up the craft store today and got some real good pike materials. Also picked up a sweet dremel tool for making cork bugs( on discount!). also some real good craft fur that does not stretch to all hell when you cut it into zonker strips. Has a coating on the back to hold the thread fibers together. Will post to end results and photos this week of some new patterns I got locked upstairs....till then enjoy and tight lines!

Non Synthetics....almost

I am currently working on a pike box with mostly all natural materials. From Ad Swiers book "Passion for Pike" Chris McCully has a fly I just love. The peacock eye and all is just well pretty damn sweet! I have done some in marabou and pheasant cheeks jungle cock eyes and p-herl. I want to just take these and fish and see what comes up. I think I will like the results. Here is my version of Chris's pattern........let the creative juices flow!

Baitfish oh Baitfish!!!!

One of my favorite patterns to tie and the color combos are unlimited. Credit to McFluffchucker for the design I just tweaked it to some different materials. He has a step by step on our site pike and predator flies called an" ultra hair baitfish". For some odd reason the pattern never comes out as good as his when I tie it. Of course I have my days with 5 minute epoxy where I could take or leave it! Any way I use micro chenille"GILLS", chartruce ultra hair, dna flash, white slink-n-flash and top it off with olive slink-n-flash. Doll eyes and mono thread 6/0 gamagatsu circle hook and coated head with hard as nails. enjoy a good pattern to tie and casts really well!

Winter Project.............

Have been talking with Ron over at "Hook and Hackle" about a pike rod build for the winter down time. After scrolling through I think I am going to try a Loomis Gl3 blank. All are 2 piece, have a sweet mohogany finish and my favorite...fast action. All Gl3 blanks come with a free component kit-a 45$ value and all 7wt rods and up come with fighting butts and oversized guides and tip top. If you are interested in buying or building a custom pike rod look into www.hookhack.com. You can
find great deals on all sorts of stuff and ask for Ron a real good guy to deal with! Rod blank for the Gl3 10 wt 136.00-u.s dollars+ shipping fee. Give it a thought I have built a couple of rods and plan to make this a special rod. 1st 2 built were ok and now with some help may have the hang of it. Tight Lines!

Deer Hair

Been messin around with more sub bug styles. 2 tone colors and such. Really like ep fibers for the tails as they have a real wavy action in the water. Mixed up with some crazy flash and p-herl and you got the makings of some good pike catchers. I have been in kinda of a tying slump just get those every now and then. I think I need to dig through my mess of pike materials and put something together. i have a bunch of yak tail .......good stuff that i need to put to use. Would love to see other peoples sub bug ties, Dave and I would greatly appreciate it for our bug site. Garry Jolley has contributed to the friends section....tight lines and good tying!

Catch of the Day!

Fished in the back yard this evening. Every pike hunting hole i fluffed coughed up no fish. I do not complain cause any time outside chuckin fluff is alright in my book! Water is starting to cool down and I suspect any day now the feed bag should be in full swing. Plenty of ducks and geese and woodstove smells and sounds to be had. Cool crisp air and the trees in full red and yellows love it! Posting the catch of the day this thing was a real fighter...bent the ole 10wt right to the cork! Tight lines!

Material Delivery..............

Like I said my cats kill.....enjoy!

Dog eat Dog world......

Great picture.....this just goes to show a northern pike's ability to take what it wants when it wants no matter how big or small. I know this is a picture of a hardware fisherman but a prime example of opportunity knocks. I had a case this year where I caught a 16inch jack and was fishing a 8 inch sub bug and the pike just inhaled the whole thing and did not think twice about it. I think that is half of the reason I love pike so much. Was awesome to see this small pike bust out of the weeds and just drill the fly...Tight Lines!

Metallica Monday.....late

I missed the Metallica Monday post so here is the logo used on the "Master of Puppets" sound track. I am into this album right now Battery, Damage Inc, Disposable hero to name a few tracks....enjoy!
