Waspi has some of the best stuff around! Have a look and a real nice read on where the best marabou comes from...a stork! These feathers have stood the test of time not only in pike patterns but all other fish catching flies as well. Jack Gartside , Lefty Kreh just a couple of names that stick out to me when I think of these feathers....why? Cause they used marabou in some of their best patterns! Tight lines and happy Fluffchucking!!!!!

Barred pickerel, little pickerel
The grass pickerel has the same long, slender body as a grass pickerel, but its snout is generally slightly shorter and convex. They have an olive-brown to green color on the back, blending to a white belly. The gill covers and cheeks are fully covered in scales. There are usually 11-13 branchiostegal rays, about three fewer than the larger chain pickerel. Dark, wavy vertical bars cover the sides.
Grass pickerel, chain pickerel
The young feed mostly on crustaceans, insects, and algae. Adult redfin pickerel eat mainly fish, but also eat insects and larvae.
The redfin pickerel stays in the Atlantic drainage system, from Maryland south to Florida. They also extend west into eastern Texas.
They stay in slow moving to still waters in streams, rivers, ponds and lakes. Soft bottoms that allow for heavy vegetation is preferred.
Similar in size to a grass pickerel, they live about 7 years and reach full maturity at 7-10 inches. They rarely exceed 12 inches.

Today was Dave's pick. Small baitfish predator flies. I got one nailed down before the screw in my vice f-in busted! So my brother gave me a cool tie in lesson last nite via skype. Brilliant and free....bout time something don't cost you an arm and a leg to use....E.P was on the menu. Dave will be here shortly so I need to button up a few patterns before he gets here. Later this week I plan to do a picture step up of the rigs and rods I use for pike. Been having people ask me that are around here about fly fishing for pike so a simple run should seal the deal. Visit Dave and see what old predator tier has up his sleeve! Till later tight lines be true to your friends even if you got 1 thats all you need! http://mcfluffchucker.blogspot.com

Good timing today. The original plan was to head out Sun. Bugger me the weather forecast looks like shit...thunderstorms , rain and the wicked witch of the west zipping by on her broomstick! So Sat afternoon was the deal. Hooked up with my friend Kevin and headed out to the big lake. No wind well a slight breeze to be exact but not much. Tried a few different spots till we got the 1st follower to snap it's toothy grin. 1st shot nice pike missed my fly...2nd time snapped again...and so it went for me. Kevin on the other hand stuck his fish. He caught 2 pretty pike and think he may have to pike bug. Gave him a go with the Pikesaber and he really enjoyed that. I got to step back and watch the rod work...beautiful! Water temp was around the 55-56 mark. I managed 1 pike myself and was quite happy to just see Kevin tie into fish...was a good day with good company....enjoy the following photos. Oh and the "Bastard Minnow" in chartreuse and white worked well....
Well it's May 1st. Dave will be here on the 21st. We have plans on building a video journal.... pike on the fly.....beers and more pike. Will include my trip in July. Will be out by the end of summer 1st part of fall on dvd and will have some great music to boot....trust us! "Adventures of Pikepicker and McFluffchucker" fall 2010...........action hero and redneck approved!!!
