basic dubbing loop......learn it!

A very useful tying skill to have under your belt. I have to say I don't use this method but I will be. It's always good to learn something new and this tying trick didn't just fall off the turnip truck. Tight Lines and I hope your gettin into a pike or 2!!! http://

Fly Fishing Expo 3-26-2011

Saturday was the Burlington flyfishing expo. Lots of stuff going on as far as fly tying , casting , raffles and silent auctions. Had a chance to meet up with friends and met new ones as well. Tying was to benefit PROJECT HEALING WATERS. What a great thing to be part of!!! Brendan Hare organized the casting clinic and our buddy John took carer of the tying contest, Mike from GREEN MOUNTAIN TROUTFITTERS , Drew Price from " Drew Price flyfishing"and Brian Price were all in attendance for the show to help with casting and tying. Got to meet up with Matt Crawford formerly from the Burlington Free Press outdoor section , that was great to finally meet him. The show opened at 10am and ended at 3pm. Was very proud and very excited to be part of this years event. I tied basic trout streamers which I had not done in quite some time so tying up some mini predator snacks was great. Even better knowing that those donated flies may help put a fish on a vets line which I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for keeping us all safe. Your sacrifices for us do not go unnoticted. I also had brought a big batch of my latetest pike and musky flies which created quite a stir! I am at home with the 2/0-6/0 hooks and found myself missing the danville + thread after a few buggers tied up on 6/0 thread!!!!! Tight lines friends!!!!!!

FOOD for THOUGHT

starting Monday's quote of the week for all of my friend's and followers.

This week is from the book Musky on the fly by Robert S. Tomes a must have fly fishing book.

From Lee Wulff. "The finest gift you can give any fisherman is to put a good fish back, and who know's if the fish you caught isn't someone else's gift to you....."

1st pike trip of the year....

The 1st trip of the year. It was a beautiful sunny 50 degree day...no wind and tons of sun.......and snow. I fished a local pond dude to it's steady out flow and shallow water. Not really much to report as it's still early and it's hit and miss. All in all it was a great day to get out and chuck some fluff. I did manage to see a hatch of early stones...2 Robins and a handful of redwing black birds. Winter's grip is letting loose slowly but surley!! Tight lines and i'll keep ya posted on this weekends venture.

The Birth Of "UGLY BETTY"

A pike snack with all the fixin's. It's like a buffet of food all at once with a tyeasing head. Iv'e floated and tossed these in the tub with line.........the action speaks for it's self. Spring time is on the rise as we have set our time clocks ahead 1 hour. The darting side to side and puffy movement is second to none. Check out the pictures and have a look. All i need now is some pike and open water........... Tight lines and happy tying!!!!

Storage on the skinny............

The local craft store had a sale.....that's always good news. For 8.99 I picked up this 12by12 art box and a full sheet of 6mm craft foam .69 cents. Good deal I say. I was looking for a solution for storing my pike/musky bugs with deer hair. I love the fin sport wallets but they tend to crush the heads. This was a simple hot glue gun fix and hot damn big bug store for Mr. Money ..... will see how it holds up this season and will report back my findings. Looking forward to spring but 3 ft of snow makes that dream seem distant. Tight lines and happy tying!!!!

Mustad C68SZ Hooks...

Iv'e been tying on these 4/0 bad boys as of late. So far I see good things with these hooks. Heavy solid sharp and a nice base to tie on. These are tarpon hooks so for pike and musky they should be spot on. A quick google search will find you the best deal or have your local shop order you up some. I paid 15.95 for these and they come in a pack of 25. I stand by my pike flies and tying on a shitty hook aint an option. Give them a go and see what you think.............tight lines and spring is comming soon chuckers!!!

A good stand by pike fly

http://

Hats off to this chap for doing a great step by step on a great pattern the "seaducer". It can be ramped up to pike size my favorite is red and white and white and chartreuse. Give this fly a go and make it as big or as small as you like. This pattern will dominate a pickerel pond as they find this easy tie irresistible. Tight Lines and good tying!!!
